What about the others days?
As we get into the New Year and many of you are aiming to put a lot of work into your training, hoping for PR glories and so on. As you do it’s important to remember that there probably isn’t one part of your training plan that is more important than the other. You'll focus on your qulity days and your long runs but what about the other days?
I feel that most training plans are about the same in the end, what matters is the consistent effort that you put into them. That means the whole plan, not just the long runs or just the speed work, the whole thing.
My training plans are built for 5 days a week of training and depending on the person maybe more maybe less. I build 5 days into most that means one –two quality days, two off days, one long run and then again depending on the person 20-60 min a day in between Those shorter, low effort days matter that’s why I put them in there. Those days are important in helping you stay loose, recovering from your hard/long workouts. They help you build your fitness while helping get ready for your next major effort.
I know you might feel tired from your previous hard effort but I think you’ll find that you’ll feel better if you get out and go for a nice easy run the day after. Your quality days will go better and you’ll feel better doing them.
So as you go through the spring make sure that you follow your plan, the whole plan. Those shorter low effort days are there to help you out and in the end help you improve so you can go on to PR glory.
